My Vespa GL is an original owner bike that has never been owned by anyone other than the original buyer. It was purchased in 1964 from a local Vespa dealer and driven as my first set of wheels. After a number of years of use, we were fortunate that no one would buy it, so it was stored in a barn for posterity. Well, posterity arrived in 1991 when my son and I dug it out of the barn and with the assistance of Phil McCaleb of Scooterworks got it back on its wheels.
The scooter had 12000 miles of hard use and looking at the before picture you can get an idea of how many accessories it had. Now it is the pride of my collection and only comes out on nice sunny days. While I’m certain that some people will thing that it isn’t right to have it as a “garage queen”, my other motorcycles and my other Vespa P200 fill the need to two wheelers. This old GL now has earned a place in history for us. At some point, it will be donated to the Motorcycle Heritage Foundation for their museum.
